A nation that will not take care of its animals will never take care of its citizens. As we uplift the conditions of our nation’s dogs and cats, we are consequently teaching people to take care of each other, as well as themselves. Our plan: to educate our students in humane animal treatment as well as proper animal health reproduction and shelters.

In our Satellite School one day last year, we caught some of the street children we are teaching who were laughing, as they were throwing stones at some newborn kittens. That was heartrending, as it made us realize the correlation between the value put on small, helpless creatures and the way people treat each other. This has inspired us to hold a campus tour to cultivate compassion by showing school children how to hold a kitten or a small dog. Let’s teach them while they’re young, before they have a chance to grow calloused to cruelty or inhumane treatment.

Can you imagine what it will do to the future of the Philippines when every public school child is taught the care and empathy for creatures that completely depend on them?
