Sendong Relief Aid
Lifeline Foundation Support Team Inc sent a team to Iligan City on January 20-22, 2012, to aid with the distribution of relief goods to the survivors of Typhoon Sendong, which struck Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City on December 17, 2011, and left many families homeless and in great need. In partnership with Fit for School and the Iligan Bloggers Society, the Lifeline team visited tent cities, an elementary school used as an evacuation center, as well as the actual river banks where there used to be houses, and where many Iliganons are rebuilding their homes and their lives, close to where they lost many of their loved ones.
Cromwell Bacareza, Director of Operations and lead coordinator for relief operations of Fit for School, tapped the Iligan Bloggers Society headed by Mr. Pat Noel, a tourism officer with DOT-Iligan, to accompany members of the Lifeline team to do relief operations. The IBS is an organization of bloggers who are committed to promote Iligan City, and who also initiated the “One for Iligan” campaign for Sendong victims. (http://iliganbloggers.com).
Iligan is a city with a great future. We say this with all confidence as we met person after person who refused to be victim-minded, but chose positivity and forward-motion toward the rebuilding of their city. Lifeline is honored to work hand-in-hand with Fit for School and The Iligan Bloggers Society.
