We are in for the long haul, and there is much to do. Before the storm hit, we had planned to adopt a town in January, this is more needed now than ever... within the next several days, we will post our vision, and are open to hearing your ideas for what could happen as part of long term support in helping rebuild communities.
The first step is this: we need money donations more than goods. In studying the situation, we recognized that there are ways, even now, to start supporting economically the larger cities and towns that are closer to these devastated sites. The plan is to buy relief goods from nearest possible point, to stimulate local businesses. The other benefit to this is the greatly reduced cost to ship goods that are sourced in Manila, and that savings in transportation can go directly to more goods for more people.
